The Lož valley (Loška dolina) is in the Notranjska region of southern Slovenia, surrounded by the largest concentration of uninhabited forest in Central Europe. This is the ideal living space for many forest animals and just one hour from Green Slovenia’s capital city Ljubljana! Our experienced guides will take you into the depths of these forests to find and safely observe the brown bear (Ursus arctos) in his natural environment.

Prices are valid until 31 December 2024. The price includes all the activities above plus the insurance of the participants. In case a bear does not approach during the first observation tour, the money is not refunded. However, a 50 % discount will be offered for the next bear observation tour.

Programme:

In the late afternoon you will be awaited at the Brown Bear Visitor Centre in TIC Lož (Tourist Information Centre). Here you will be given some basic information about the brown bear and its presence in Slovenia. You will also learn how it affects the lives of the people in Loška dolina.  

Before setting off, you will be given instructions on how to move around safely and what to do to make your brown bear observation experience as successful as possible.

Our professional guide will then drive you deep into the forest, which is about 15 minutes away from Lož.

After a short and easy walk through the forest you will climb up the hunting hideout and quietly listen and observe the animals wandering around. A brown bear will be among them. 

The programme starts between 4 pm and 6 pm. The beginning of the programme depends on the length of the day, so the participant will be given exact information upon booking the tour. The entire programme lasts about 2-3 hours, two of which are spent in the treetop hunting hide.

Programme:

In the early afternoon you will be awaited at the Brown Bear Visitor Centre – TIC Lož. Here you will receive information about the programme, instructions on how to move around safely and how to make your brown bear observation experience as successful as possible.

Our professional guide will then drive you to Gornje Poljane, a settlement about 1000 m above sea level, which is about 20 minutes away from Lož. While strolling around in the surrounding forest you will discover animal tracks, become acquainted with a variety of plants and listen to the stories, which reveal the tight connection and co-dependency of humans and nature.

You will also learn about the country life in the past and see the ethnographic collection of local farming and forestry tools, along with some household items.  

For that local homemade taste and experience, you will be offered a welcome drink (non-alcoholic or spirits) and traditional homemade snack, prepared from local and seasonal ingredients.

For many of you, the highlight of the evening will surely be the moment, when you quietly sit in the hunting hideout in the middle of the forest just a few meters above the ground and observe the animals coming close – a brown bear will be one of them.
